Everything to know about localized cryotherapy with NU Life Wellness: how it works, what to expect, and whether it's right for you.
Localized cryotherapy applies a focused stream of very cold air to one specific area of your body, like a knee, shoulder, lower back, or your face. The skin's surface temperature drops quickly while the rest of your body stays comfortable.
It's sometimes called spot cryotherapy. Think of it as a far more powerful and precise version of an ice pack.
Whole-body cryotherapy places your entire body in a cold chamber. Localized cryotherapy treats only the area that needs it, so there's no chamber, no undressing, and no full-body cold exposure.
Because it's targeted, it's a good fit for joint pain, sore muscles, sports injuries, and facial treatments, and it's easy for us to bring to your home or office.
The rapid cold causes blood vessels in the treated area to narrow, which helps calm inflammation and swelling and slows nerve signals that carry pain. As the area rewarms, fresh blood flows back in, supporting your body's natural recovery process.
Clients use it for chronic pain, arthritis, inflammation, post-workout soreness, sports injuries, and autoimmune flare-ups. On the aesthetic side, it's used to reduce puffiness, tighten pores, support collagen, and give skin a refreshed glow.
Results vary from person to person. Gloria will talk through your goals during your free consult.
Yes. Localized cryotherapy is non-invasive, and only the targeted area is exposed to cold. Gloria controls the device the entire time, keeps it moving, and checks in on your comfort throughout the session.
Most people describe it as a brisk, intense chill. The area may tingle or feel slightly numb by the end. It shouldn't be painful, and you can ask Gloria to pause at any time.
Side effects are mild and temporary. You may notice some redness, tingling, or numbness at the treatment site, which usually fades shortly after your session. There's no downtime.
Localized cryotherapy isn't right for everyone. Please talk with your doctor first, and let us know before booking, if you have any of the following:
We review your health history before every first session.
Many of our clients are navigating perimenopause, menopause, fibromyalgia, arthritis, or autoimmune conditions. Gloria started NU Life Wellness after cryotherapy helped her own autoimmune pain. We always recommend checking with your doctor, and we'll tailor every session to how your body is feeling that day.
Most treatments take between 30 seconds and 3 minutes per area, depending on the area and your goals. Your full visit, including check-in, is usually short enough to fit into a lunch break.
There's very little to do. For the best session:
Gloria arrives at your home, office, gym, or any private space with professional-grade cryo equipment. You don't need to set anything up. Just wear comfortable clothing and she'll handle the rest.
Yes. There's no downtime, so you can go straight back to work, errands, or training. Many athletes book their session right after a workout.
Yes. Localized cryo pairs well with compression therapy for tired legs and LED therapy for skin. Ask about combining services when you book.
Many clients feel relief right after their first session, especially for pain and inflammation. Longer-term benefits, like improved skin tone and collagen support, build with regular sessions.
It depends on your goals. A recent injury or flare-up often responds well to a few sessions close together over one to two weeks. Chronic pain, recovery routines, and skin goals usually benefit from regular, ongoing sessions.
Our 3, 5, and 8 session packages make it easier to stay consistent.
